Mississippi Opera

Gregory Wascoe

Gregory Wascoe is proud to make his Mississippi Opera debut as POOH-BAH. Equally at home in opera, musical theater, concert and recital, Wascoe’s versatile acting as well as his large range provides him an opportunity to portray a boundless variety of diverse roles. Earlier this year he was seen as the Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince in a new production of Into the Woods. 2015 began with a revival of his Emile DeBecque in South Pacific where he delivered, “a powerful and, at the same time, gorgeous vocal performance” in which he made, “a lasting impression on every theatergoer present” (Lubbock Avalanche-Journal). He next took on the high lying tessitura of Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, followed by Edward Rutledge in 1776. That fall he was seen as the title characters in Jekyll and Hyde and finished the year as Ebenezer Scrooge in Rob Mullholand’s highly successful, A Christmas Carol: The Musical. His dramatic baritone voice has been heard throughout the United States as well as performances internationally. Favorite stage highlights include Javert in Les Misérables, Tonio in I Pagliacci, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Marcello in La Bohéme, Peter in Hansel and Gretel, Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, and the title roles in Gianni Schicchi and Don Giovanni. As an instructor of voice, Mr. Wascoe is a member of the music faculty at Jones County Junior College and has the privilege to present Master Classes in Texas, Mississippi, Idaho, Illinois and Italy.
