MS OPERA PRESENTS STAGE STARS OF TOMORROW SIX SPECTACULAR AMERICAN SINGERS TO HEADLINE GALA CONCERT
Jackson, MS —If you love fabulous singing, you’re going to love the Mississippi Opera’s Future Stars of the Stage Concert on Monday, October 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Duling Hall in Jackson, MS. Six spectacular singers were chosen as winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition. Chelsey Geeting(Portland, Maine), Whitney Myers (Tahlequah, Oklahoma), Bridget Cappel (Sterling Heights, Michigan), Laura Broscow (Irvine, California), Demi Vanderwerff (Huntsville, Alabama), and Esther Atkinson (Bangor, Northern Ireland) will perform the concert with members of the Mississippi Opera Orchestra conducted by Artistic Director, Jay Dean.
On Saturday, September 28, Mississippi Opera hosted the 2019 John Alexander National Vocal Competition, which is sponsored by the Robert M. Hearrin Foundation. Within a seven-hour window, over 90 singers from all around the United States and beyond, 4 guest adjudicators (Peter Randsman from Randsman Artists Management, Shandra McKern from Pensacola Opera, Paul Houghtaling from the University of Alabama, and Matt Morgan from the University of Florida) and 3 pianists (Richard Nechamkin of New York City, Daniel Ley of Northwestern State University and Tyler Kemp of Mississippi College) and members of the Mississippi Opera staff and Opera Guild convened for a full day of competitive singing.
At the conclusion of the day adjudicators chose the top six performers. The John Alexander National Vocal Competition is one of the fastest growing competitions in the nation. Presented annually by the Mississippi Opera, the competition was named in honor of Metropolitan Opera star and Meridian, Mississippi native John Alexander.
