The Mississippi Opera continues their 73rd Season on November 10th, with an invitation to take a bumpy ride on the “D’Oyly Carte” and enter The Hilarious World of Gilbert & Sullivan , featuring memorable highlights from their famous operettas that still widely performed in the English-speaking world.
For those of you that enjoyed our past productions The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance, you’re going to love The Hilarious World of Gilbert & Sullivan, which contains comical moments from all their biggest shows such as The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Gondoliers, The Yeomen of the Guard, Patience, and others.
Under the direction of Gilbert and Sullivan specialist, Paul Houghtaling, stage director, and Richard Nechamkin, music director, the performance will feature the talents of vocalists Susan Williams, David Tayloe, Alexis Davis-Hazell, James Bobick, and Paul Houghtaling.
The show will also feature the Mississippi Opera Chorus, under the direction of Andrew Head.
Librettist W.S. Gilbert (1836-1911) & composer Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900,) whose creative partnership between 1871-1896 produced 14 comic operas, are well known for their whimsical “topsy-turvy” plots and catchy melodies. Together with producer Richard D’Oyly Carte, they helped bring success to the Savoy Theatre in Victorian England, and helped found the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in 1881.
