Jackson, MS –The Mississippi Opera Guild announces its first recipient of the Mississippi Opera Circle of Excellence Award. The Guild created this award to honor individuals for exceptional creative vision, inclusiveness, and contribution to the artistic vibrancy of our capital city and state. This year’s honoree is Jeff Good, who is well known in the Metro Jackson area for the successful restaurant enterprises of BRAVO!, Sal and Mookie’s New York Pizza and Ice Cream Joint, and the Broad Street Baking Company and Café.
Jeff’s history with the Mississippi Opera goes back a number of years. We consider Jeff to be a visionary who has made a real difference in the landscape of our city and state. As for the opera company itself, he has always been very willing to be involved with our projects; he has emceed many opera events, presented “opera-tunities” in his restaurants, and last year, he even appeared on the Thalia Mara Hall stage as the “Prince of Persia” in Puccini’s Turandot. This award is a way that we can demonstrate our appreciation to him this year and others in the future.
The award itself is being designed by Jackson artist Andrew Young of Pearl River Glass.
Jeff’s many accomplishments include receiving the City of Jackson “City With Soul” Award and being inducted in the MS Tourism Hall of Fame in 2017, accepting The Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence Award in 2014, and receiving the “Friend of Tourism” award for nine separate years by Jackson Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. Good is a founding principal and managing partner of Soul City Hospitality, in addition to being a founding board member of the Refill Jackson Initiative and Refill Café, among others.
The event on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at the Dinsmor Clubhouse (1 Dinsmor Crossing, Ridgeland, MS) will include the award presentation, a brief concert, and reception.
