Jackson, MS – Thursday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Dominic Chapel, Mississippi Opera will present Moonlight & Magic, a vocal recital featuring soprano, Stacey Trenteseaux from Dresden, Germany and pianist Zhaolei Xie from Beijing, China.
Moonlight & Magic is the first program of a new Mississippi Opera recital series called Opera in the Chapel. Audiences will enjoy a favorite selection of opera arias, musical theatre tunes, and art songs celebrating the magic, mystery, and romance of love including pieces by Gershwin, Strauss, Debussy, Faure, Bizet, Dvorak, Puccini, Brahms, Weill and more.
Ms. Trenteseaux recently made her German debut singing the title role in Verdi’s Luisa Miller with Pasinger Fabrik Opera House in Munich and will sing with Opernfest Prague in the Czech Republic in August 2019. She has performed concerts and opera in the United States and Germany including as Micaëla in Mississippi Opera’s 2016 production of “Carmen." Mr. Xie received his piano training at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and St. Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia, and holds a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and an Artist Diploma from Texas Christian University. He is an active recitalist, chamber musician, and piano accompanist performing concerts and recitals around the United States and abroad. Mr. Xie has won numerous regional, national, and international piano competitions and currently serves as Staff Accompanist at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Finished in 2012, St. Dominic’s Chapel was designed with state of the art acoustics and appears in the book of “20 years of Worship Spaces” published by the Acoustical Society of America. The chapel is dedicated to Sister Dorothea “Dotty” Sondgeroth of the Dominican Sisters of Jackson, Miss. who coordinated and realized the vision of the new chapel at St. Dominic Hospital. St. Dominic Chapel is located at 969 Lakeland Dr, in Jackson, Mississippi.
